Over 20 years of working in the arts:

My name is TK Burd-Rasmussen (she/her). I’m a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, a certified Life Coach, and a member of the UBCP/ACTRA Mental Health and Accessibility Committee. I’m licensed and regulated through the ACCT (Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists) of Canada.

For over 20 years, I worked in the creative arts in Canada, as a freelance writer, editor, and visual artist, as well as support roles in the arts.

As a writer, I’ve had music reviews and musician bios published nationally, published two non-fiction books under a pseudonym, and have written, ghost-written, and edited multiple articles, books, and short stories. As a photographer, my work has been in exhibitions at the VAG and the Saatchi Gallery, and published in books and magazines both nationally and internationally.

I’ve worked with broadcast personalities at CBC Radio. I’ve worked with stage, film, and TV actors at Canadian Actors Equity, and at Characters Talent. I’ve worked with musicians of all genres at live music venues, at Feldman Talent, and the VSO.

Uniquely qualified to help you:

Although I earned my living in the arts for many years, the pandemic changed that. As it did for so many people. No counsellor or therapist I spoke with, truly understood the grief and loss I was feeling. Being an artistic, creative person is a life experience that can’t be appreciated unless you live it.

So, I decided the best way to make the world at least a little better in these scary, f*cked-up times, was to become a licensed mental health counsellor. Helping each other, is how we survive and grow. I offer therapy for all adults, and specialize in counselling people with creative personalities.

I have the related skill-set of being a certified Life Coach, trained in giving you actionable tools and skills for self-improvement. Which pairs really well with mental health counselling.

Your trauma and pain are what happened to you, they aren’t who you are. It’s the things you hope for, that define how you see and move through the world. You need a mental health professional who realizes what that means. I work with you not only to help you heal, but also to strengthen your joy and hope.

Specialized Support: I understand the unique pressures and emotional experiences that affect your personal and your professional life. Therapy sessions with me, are focused on helping you health, hope, and thrive. Mentally, emotionally, and creatively.

It’s Not Just Talk: Your sessions are talk-therapy of course, but I can also help you with actionable methods to improve the ways you navigate your life. This often leads to deeper healing and more sustainable change.

My Approach: My mental health counselling combines talk therapy, person-centered therapy, somatic methods, mindfulness, and life coaching methods.

Safe and Compassionate: I hold a safe, empathetic, and confidential space for to you to be yourself and explore your challenges without judgment.

My Values: I’m anti-racist, an LGBTQ2S+ ally, feminist, anti-capitalist, sex-positive, pro-environmental, and non-religious. While I don’t expect my therapy clients to have the exact same values, it is important that we have similar viewpoints about kindness, accountability, respect, honesty, and compassion.

Please contact a physician, or the Canadian Psychological Association for assistance in finding a practitioner for any of these issues.

Sometimes we’ll work together on the obstacles holding you back, or goals you have for your life, or on your sense of self and self-worth. Sometimes you might just want someone to talk to, and hold space for you, without trying to ‘fix’ anything. When you’re having days like that, I’m also here to just listen, if that’s what you need.
