About
A Good Place Helps
Uniquely qualified to help you:
My name is TK Burd-Rasmussen (she/her). I’m a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, a certified Life Coach, and a member of the UBCP/ACTRA Mental Health and Accessibility Committee. I’m licensed and regulated through the ACCT (Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists) of Canada.
Based in Vancouver, BC. I provide therapy sessions by phone or Zoom. So you can work with me from anywhere.
For over 20 years, I worked in the Creative Arts in Canada, as a freelance writer, editor, and visual artist, as well as in support roles. During that time, I became a certified Life Coach. A few years ago, I went back to school for a Diploma in Professional Counselling.
In addition to my Mental Health Counsellor skills, my training in Life Coaching means I can give you actionable tools and proven methods for self-improvement. My years of work in the Arts means I think and communicate with creativity and passion.
And how does all that translate to being a really good therapist? Well, my background means I don’t just see things as they are, I also see things as they could be. Your therapy sessions with me are about your existing issues and concerns; but I also help you move toward your wishes and goals.
Therapy that isn't just about the bad stuff:
It’s undeniable that these are ugly, sh*tty times. It feels hard to believe things will ever change or improve. But in reality, things are constantly changing, and not always for the worse. They get better too. The importance of remembering that, is why I became a professional Mental Health Therapist.
So many of us are struggling, and yes, the world seems incredibly hard these days. Helping each other, is the best way for us to survive and grow.
Talking to someone like me, who truly knows how to understand you, hear you, and support you, makes all the difference.
Your trauma and pain don’t define who you are. It’s the things you hope for, that colour how you see and move through the world. You need a mental health professional who realizes what that means. I work with you not only to help you heal, but also to strengthen your joys and hopes.
Will I be a good fit for you?
Specialized Support: I understand the unique pressures and emotional experiences that affect your personal and your professional life. Therapy sessions with me, are focused on helping you heal, hope, and thrive. Mentally, emotionally, and creatively.
It’s Not Just Talk: Your sessions are talk-therapy of course, but I can also help you with actionable methods to improve the ways you navigate your life. This often leads to deeper healing and more sustainable change.
My Approach: My mental health counselling combines talk therapy, person-centered therapy, somatic methods, mindfulness, and life coaching methods.
Safe and Compassionate: I hold a safe, empathetic, and confidential space for to you to be yourself and explore your challenges without judgment.
My Values: I’m anti-racist, an LGBTQ2S+ ally, feminist, anti-capitalist, sex-positive, pro-environmental, and non-religious. While I don’t expect my therapy clients to have the exact same values, it is important that we have similar viewpoints about kindness, accountability, respect, honesty, and compassion.
Please Note: I don’t offer counselling services for children, couples, or families. I don’t offer counselling for substance addictions, eating disorders, or clinical disorders. Please contact a physician, or the Canadian Psychological Association for assistance in finding a practitioner for any of these issues.
If you’re struggling with emotional, mental, or creative challenges, I’m here for you. Sometimes we’ll work together on the obstacles, fears, and pain that holds you back. Sometimes we’ll work on the goals you have for your life, or your sense of self and self-worth. Sometimes you might just want someone to talk to, and hold space for you, without trying to ‘fix’ anything. When you’re having days like that, I’m also here to just listen, when that’s what you need.
